Gay Pride Monument, paying homage to the 500 plus courageous social justice warriors who tirelessly fought for the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQ community. The inspiration for this concept drew from one of the United States’ most iconic public artworks – the Statue of Liberty.
The sphere symbolizes unity and is reminiscent of a contemporary disco ball. The disco era was a significant time for the LGBTQ+ community, characterized by liberation, and a nostalgic reflection on pride, freedom, joy, and celebration. Like the statue of Liberty, this sculpture serves as a beacon, illuminating the path to a promising future and metaphorically passing on the torch to the next generation.
The outreached hand introduces a dramatic and off-balance element to the monument, symbolizing an extension of connection, outreach, and dynamic engagement. It serves as a symbol of strength, support, and guidance.

Finalist design for 34 feet tall stainless steel monument celebrating marathon running on the grounds of the former airport.
The roof of the monument honors those who watched over us and ensured our wellbeing during the pandemic. The circular opening represents the millions who died from the virus, while the columns symbolize strength and perseverance. Each column has seating areas for privacy and contemplation, representing social isolation during the pandemic.

An other finalist design. This is a concept for the new Parks Maintenance Facility. It is a fusion of “nature and manmade objects” inspired by pinecones. I am using stainless-steel shovels to create the 4 pinecones, which can be illuminated from the inside to create interesting light and shadow patterns. Shovels are some of the most important and basic landscape tools and an ideal symbol to represent the mission of the Parks Maintenance Facility. My goal was to create a contemporary and esthetically pleasing sculpture to inspire park staff and to celebrate the beauty that “blossoms” from manicured maintenance work.
